Common Name: Red Oak, Northern Red Oak

A large deciduous tree with a broadly spreading growth habit. Bark becomes furrowed and dark brown with age. Dark green leaves are thick and roughly oval with sharply toothed lobes. Foliage turns ornamental red-brown in fall. Inconspicuous female flowers and male catkins yield acorns. Native to eastern North America. Provides habitat and food for numerous animal species.
