Botanical Name: Quercus engelmannii

Common Name: Engelmann Oak, Mesa Oak

A moderately fast growing evergreen tree with a rounded, spreading form. Light grayish-brown bark is furrowed and scaly, the trunk becomes more gnarled and twisted with age. Leaves are oblong to ovate, bluish-green, and leathery to the touch. Insignificant spring flowers are followed by mid-sized acorns that provide an important source of food to local wildlife in winter. Native to Southern California.
