Common Name: California Native Blackberry, Pacific Blackberry

A semi-deciduous shrub that forms a prickly, vining bramble. Green leaves are serrated, compound and divided into three leaflets. On female plants, spring flowers are followed by edible blackberry fruits that ripen from red to purple-black in summer. Fruit is variable, though blackberries are typically small, fragrant, tasty and sweet-tart. Attracts beneficial insects, pollinators and birds. Native to western North America, including California.
