A spreading perennial groundcover from woodlands of the southeastern United States, semi-evergreen in mild climates. Blue-green leaves develop silver mottling and may turn red in fall. Fragrant white and pink flower spikes open in spring; small dry capsules may follow. It forms slow, noninvasive colonies. Use beneath trees, on shaded slopes, or along woodland paths.
