A deciduous shrub or small tree with an open branching habit, adaptable to training. Abundant, arching spikes of crimson red, beak-like flowers bloom from spring to fall. Attracts hummingbirds. Lush leaves are leathery, bright green, and decorated with sharp thorns. Native to South America.
