Common Name: Island Oak

An evergreen tree with a single or multi-trunking habit and a variable form, depending on location. Bark becomes scaly and gray-brown with age. Shiny, dark green leaves are oval with prominent venation and toothed, rolled-under edges. Inconspicuous female and male catkins yield acorns. Native to the Channel Islands of California. Thrives in moist conditions. Provides habitat and food for numerous animal species.
