Botanical Name: Erythrina caffra, E. constantiana

Common Name: Coral Tree

Deciduous tree native to South Africa. Bare branches are angular and attractive, and produce large clusters of deep red-orange tubular flowers. Flowers produce nectar in abundance, attracting birds. After flowering, the tree is adorned with black seed pods that burst open to reveal bright red seeds. In late winter or earlier, flowers give way to new, bright green egg-shaped leaves.
