Botanical Name: Opuntia basilaris

Common Name: Beavertail Cactus

A true cactus that spreads to form a low, shrubby fence. Gray-green cladodes are shaped like beaver tails. Barbed bristles poke out from widely spaced areoles. Showy, brilliant pink flowers in spring and summer are followed by prickly pear fruits. Native to North America, including California. Evergreen.
