An evergreen shrub that forms a ground cover. Spreads by rhizomes. Glossy green leaves are pointed, alternating, and more slender than the species. In spring, small white flowers are intensely fragrant. Glossy dark blue fruit develops in early summer. Tolerates deep, dry shade.
