An evergreen shrub with a broad habit. Mid spring bloom. Funnel-shaped flowers grow in globe-shaped trusses. Flowers are deep red with a black blotch. Attracts butterflies, bees and hummingbirds. Dark green leaves are elliptic and leathery. Hardy to -10 degrees F. Needs acidic soil, pH 4.5 - 6.0.
