An evergreen, compact tree with a narrow, dense crown for screens, patios, and small sites. Glossy dark green leaves have rusty brown undersides. Large, scented white flowers open from late spring into summer. Cone-like fruit later shows red seeds that feed birds. The parent species is native to the southeastern United States.
