Common Name: Blood of China Camellia

An understory evergreen shrub with a rounded form. Flowers are large, semi-double, and peony-form. Petals are deep red. Stamens are golden yellow. Blooms from January to March in California. Leaves are leathery, dark green, and have finely serrated edges. Can tolerate full shade. Needs acidic soil, pH 5.1 - 6.0.
