Common Name: California Dutchman's Pipe, California Pipevine

A deciduous, twining vine with heart-shaped green leaves and unusual maroon pipe-shaped flowers in late winter to spring. This California native is the larval host for pipevine swallowtail butterflies and fits woodland edges, fences, and trellises. Performs best with well-drained soil, light shade, and occasional summer water.
