Botanical Name: Eriobotrya japonica

Common Name: Loquat, Chinese Plum

An evergreen shrub or tree with a rounded or vase-shaped crown. Lightly fragrant, white flower clusters are followed by edible fruits with orange skin, orange or white flesh, and large seeds. Fruit flavor varies between sweet, acidic, and subacid. Eat fresh or in preserves. Harvest in spring. Glossy, deep green leaves are toothed, elliptic to lance-shaped and leathery. Some leaves emerge red.
