A stately tropical perennial that resembles a banana plant with no edible fruit. Glossy, rich green leaves are tinged with red and accented with wine-red midribs. Leaves are large, reaching 10 - 20 feet long and 2 - 4 feet wide. Inconspicuous white flowers appear on mature plants in summer. Tolerates neither wind, nor frost. May be grown in a pot and moved indoors to survive winters. Native to Africa.
