Devil Mountain Clements Named Gold Tier Participant in CDFA/NORS-DUC Best Management Practices Program

CDFA and the National Ornamental Research Site at Dominican University of CA (NORS-DUC) have developed a voluntary program for ornamental and native plant nurseries which encourages and guides the implementation of BMPs in their plant production systems. The goal is to reduce the risk of introducing soil-borne plant pathogens into nursery operations. Inclusion in the program provides customers with a higher level of confidence that nursery operations are reducing the introduction and spread of diseases and pests.

In October 2022, Devil Mountain’s Clements nursery was awarded Gold Tier status, which is the highest and most difficult level to achieve. Gold Tier nurseries must implement 45 of 51 BMPs, which start with propagation and continue through delivery to the customer. Components include plants, soil, water, containers, physical layout, sanitation, scouting practices, training, and documentation.
